Learn more about The Village Café - Ceres Community Café
The Village Café was established in 2018 and is a registered charity. It is located in the heart of the village of Ceres, in Northeast Fife. The village is 2 miles from the town of Cupar and 7 miles from St Andrews.
Our whole ethos is that we are run by the community, for the community.
Apart from 3 employees, the café is run by a large group of local volunteers who work and bake for the café. The café operates on Mondays and then Thursday to Sunday from 10-4pm serving breakfast, lunch and sweet treats to sit-in or takeaway.
We also have a range of items for sale, including artwork and crafts from local artists, jams made by volunteers from locally picked fruit, books (some local authors), and other items about the Fife Pilgrim Way.
On Tuesdays, it is rented from us by Options in Life. They are a local charity who provide training and work experience opportunities for young people with disabilities.
On Wednesdays, it is rented by Ceres Coffee and Chat through the local parish church to provide warm food and drinks to anyone who may need it.
We serve the local community but also enjoy a lot of passing trade. As Ceres is part of the Fife Pilgrim Way, we have a lot of walkers and cyclists who visit the café as a pitstop. We also enjoy custom from people in the surrounding areas and get a large number of tourists visiting from St Andrews and the East Neuk.
The café aims to provide a welcome environment for all members of our community, who can come and enjoy some delicious food and company. We recognise more than ever, the importance of ensuring the wellbeing of our community, especially those who are isolated.
For the past three years, we have run our ‘Good Companions ‘ lunch every Monday from 12-2pm.The aim of the lunches are to encourage members of our community who are carers, live on their own, or those whose families no longer live locally, to come together and share lunch, chat with some companions and pass a pleasant hour of two in the café.
The lunch consists of homemade soup, a sandwich or toastie with a choice of fillings, followed by a cup of tea or coffee with a fresh home bake to finish. The lunch is free and no booking is required, however any donations made towards the lunch is much appreciated and will be used towards the continued running of the Good Companion Lunches.
The Good Companions Lunch has been supported by the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund through Fife Voluntary Action Group and the Scottish Government.
